ASSESSMENTS BASED ON YOUR NEEDS

The Right Exam Depends on the Purpose

There is no single examination that is appropriate for every person or purpose. The assessment provided will depend on your health, the reason for the appointment, and any requirements established by an employer, insurer, school, government body, or other organization.

An examination does not guarantee medical clearance, completion of a form, a particular test result, or certification that you meet a third party’s requirements.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

1. Review Requirements

The clinic reviews the purpose of the exam and the documents you provide. Additional information may be needed if requirements are unclear.

2. History & Examination

The physician may review medical history, medications, previous conditions, symptoms, and daily function. The physical exam depends on the purpose of the visit.

3. Testing or Records

Some forms cannot be completed until laboratory results, diagnostic tests, immunization records, specialist reports, or previous records are available.

4. Documentation & Next Steps

The physician documents findings supported by the assessment. Some forms may require another appointment before completion.

Medical Exam Fees & Alberta Health Coverage

AHCIP covers many medically necessary physician services, but it does not cover every examination, form, letter, report, or third-party request.

Exams requested for employment, insurance, licensing, legal, or administrative purposes may involve a fee. Testing and form-completion charges may also apply.

Before booking, ask whether the requested service is available, insured or uninsured, what fees may apply, whether testing is charged separately, and when payment is required.

Most Exams Are In Person

Most medical examinations require an in-person appointment because a physical assessment, identity verification, test, or original document may be needed.

Virtual Care Has Limits

Phone or video may be suitable for discussing requirements or reviewing certain results, but usually cannot replace an in-person third-party exam.
